    The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation Awards $455,000 in Grants Supporting the Dayton Region

    DAYTON, Ohio - July 30, 2018 - Today, The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation is awarding five mid-year Power Grants to area partner organizations that support new or continued innovative growth initiatives which will make a long-lasting impact on the people and communities in the Dayton Region.

    "The DP&L Foundation introduced Signature Grants in 2013 to provide organizations the opportunity to request funding for larger projects. Now called Power Grants, these strategic investments are aimed at helping to improve the quality of life, enhancing the sustainability of organizations and engaging volunteerism in area partner organizations. I am proud to share, through the DP&L Foundation Power Grants, we are powering connections and creating positive impacts throughout our community," said President and CEO of Dayton Power & Light Craig Jackson. "Today, we recognize their transformational projects and passion in community building helping to make Dayton a great place to live, work and play."

    The DP&L Foundation is the largest corporate foundation in the Miami Valley that distributes every dollar locally. Power Grants support programs and capital improvements, that drive economic growth, improve education and provide essential services to the Miami Valley.

    The recipients of the mid-year DP&L Foundation Power Grants are:

    • Dayton Performing Arts Alliance - the fourth of five grants totaling $500,000 for Powering Innovation in the Performing Arts to continue focus on innovation, integrating the arts, education and community outreach, while maintaining the highest artistic quality.
    • Victoria Theatre Association - completing its $500,000 commitment as the Official Energy Sponsor for the Next Stage Campaign, which is building a $30 million endowment to sustain Dayton's first-class arts facilities and programs into the future.
    • Friends of Levitt Dayton - the second of two $50,000 grants, a total of $100,000 committed to the construction of the new Levitt Pavilion Dayton fostering community building and economic development through free music and a cultural gathering place in the downtown core.
    • Omega Community Development Corporation - the second of four $50,000 grants totaling $200,000 for the redevelopment of a 30-acre site for the Hope Center focused on early child education, work training programs and health and wellness support.
    • Murphy Theatre Company - the second of two $25,000 grants, a total of $50,000 to support the restoration and preservation of the historic theatre to continue hosting a variety of performances. 

    Additionally, The DP&L Foundation mid-year grants were awarded to: WYSO Public Radio for $40,000, ThinkTV received $40,000, the Muse Machine accepted a $30,000 grant and Boonshoft Museum of Discovery received $20,000. Since 1985, The DP&L Foundation has given over $37 million in grants. Annually, DP&L employees generously volunteer more than 8,000 hours giving back to the community.

    The DP&L Foundation has awarded 57 Power Grants to 24 of DP&L's community partner organizations around the Miami Valley totaling more than $4 million.
