    Call before you dig

    Call before you dig

Put safety first and have underground utilities marked before any digging project.

When you plan to do outdoor work such as landscaping, installing a fence or pool, or excavating for construction, always call before you dig.

    How it works

    • This free service is coordinated by the Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS), a collaboration of Ohio utility providers working together to promote public safety and prevent damage to underground infrastructure.
    • Call 8-1-1 or 800-362-2764 or make an online request at oups.org at least two, and up to 10, business days before digging will begin.
    • Be prepared to provide details including your contact information, where you will be digging and what type of work you will be doing. It only takes a few minutes.
    • OUPS will coordinate with local utility companies to mark underground facilities in the area.

Ohio law requires that anyone digging contact OHIO811 at least 48 hours (excluding weekends and legal holidays) prior to beginning their work. Failure to contact OHIO811 could result in fines or penalties.
