Erie Substation and 138 kV Extension Project

The Dayton Power and Light Company d/b/a AES Ohio is proposing certain upgrades to the local power grid, known as the Erie Substation and 138kV Extension Project (the “Project”). The proposed Project is part of area-wide transmission improvements to improve service and reliability in the northern portion of our service territory.

The proposed Project involves the construction of the new approximately 4.8-acre Erie Substation and extending two 138kV lines of approximately 0.35 and 0.18 miles each to tie into the new substation. The new Erie Substation will be built on a parcel adjacent to the existing Amsterdam Substation on Amsterdam Rd. and will include two new 138/69kV transformers and four new 138 kV circuit breakers.

In 2022, AES Ohio submitted a project to expand the existing Amsterdam Substation (the Amsterdam Substation Expansion Project, Case Number 22-0834-EL-BLN. approved on March 2, 2023), however, it was determined that the initial configuration proposed in the Amsterdam Substation Expansion Project did not anticipate the extended outages that would have been necessary to complete substation construction. The new Erie Substation significantly reduces outage durations and will replace the existing Amsterdam Substation.

The Project is located adjacent to the existing Amsterdam Substation, 3471 Amsterdam Road, west of State Route 66, in German Township, Auglaize County, OH.
