AES Ohio customers have options for their energy supplier

May 20, 2025

AES Ohio, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), was notified the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) accepted the results from the April 29, 2025, wholesale auction for energy supply. This auction, combined with the results from October 15, 2024, auction sets the Price to Compare or AES Ohio Standard Service Offer (SSO).

In Ohio, customers have the ability to choose their energy supplier. The Energy Choice Ohio “Apples to Apples” website is a convenient way to compare the different offers and view helpful tips in selecting an energy supplier. The PUCO oversees the program, ensuring a fair and competitive environment.

The market-based auction is separate from AES Ohio’s investments and rates for transmission and distribution that are also subject to PUCO approval.

  • Beginning this summer, AES Ohio and local agencies will participate in community events to help customers with energy and billing questions.
  • The Price to Compare or AES Ohio SSO is $0.0945 per kWh. The price will go into effect June 1, 2025, for one year.
  • If a customer chooses AES Ohio’s SSO for their energy supply, AES Ohio charges the Price to Compare (with no mark-up) based on the auctions.
