Immediate tips and program options can help customers stay comfortable and manage costs during the high heat months
AES Ohio shares ways customers can manage summer energy usage
June 30, 2026
With temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-upper 90s this week and heat indices above 100°F, AES Ohio, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is sharing tips to help customers manage energy use, stay comfortable and reduce seasonal bill impacts. During hot weather, air conditioners and household appliances often work harder, especially during afternoon and early evening hours, which can increase electricity use.
Ways customers can manage usage and save energy now
Higher summer bills can add stress, especially when temperatures rise for several days in a row. Customers can better manage energy use by enrolling in budget billing, tracking daily usage, and exploring available programs.
- Sign up for budget billing to pay a predictable, fixed amount each month to smooth out unexpected cost spikes, making household expenses easier to manage.
- Invest in a Smart thermostat to reduce heating and cooling costs by 10% to 15% by automating temperature adjustments based on your daily routine.
- Track the 12-month historical usage on your AES Ohio bill to pinpoint seasonal energy spikes. Next to the chart, your bill provides information such as average temperatures from the previous year to help you understand why your usage changed.

Cooling can account for more than half of home energy use during the summer, so small changes can help. AES Ohio wants customers to stay comfortable while using energy wisely. These steps can help customers stay comfortable while using energy more efficiently.
- Wait until later in the evening to use heat-producing appliances, like the oven, clothes dryer, and dishwasher. Many appliances have timers you can set, so they turn on hours later.
- Set your thermostat back at least 8 degrees each day – when you are at work and when you go to bed.
- Don’t set the thermostat lower than you want it, even if you’re trying to cool your home quickly. It won’t cool your home any faster, and it runs your system longer than necessary.
- When using a ceiling fan, you can raise the thermostat setting a few degrees and still be comfortable.
- Shade south and west-facing windows during the hottest part of the day.
