Edison Electric Institute recognizes AES Ohio as an Emergency Recovery Award recipient
September 16, 2025
AES Ohio, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), received an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Recovery Award. The Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI’s Fall Board of Directors and Chief Executives Meeting.
“Receiving this recognition from EEI confirms the dedication and tireless work of our team. In the face of destructive storms and challenging conditions, our team responded with professionalism, speed, and compassion—restoring essential power for thousands across our region,” said Tom Raga, president of AES Ohio. “We are proud to serve West Central Ohio and for the trust our customers place in us every day.”
Between March and June, AES Ohio responded to multiple severe weather incidents, including two confirmed tornadoes and thunderstorms with wind gusts exceeding 70 MPH. The tornadoes affected the southeastern service area, resulting in downed power lines, damage to electrical infrastructure, and outages impacting tens of thousands of customers. In June, crews safely restored power following a significant storm lasting just over one hour that caused extensive damage. After the largest event, AES Ohio successfully completed full restoration for more than 67,000 affected customers within 52 hours, reflecting efficient and effective recovery operations under challenging conditions.
“America’s electric companies and their dedicated workforces work tirelessly throughout the year to strengthen the energy grid and to restore power — and peace of mind — for American families and businesses after extreme weather events and natural disasters,” said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney. “EEI is proud to recognize AES Ohio for its extraordinary response efforts following spring storms and tornadoes. This recovery award reflects AES Ohio and its storm response team’s incredible commitment to the customers and communities they serve.”
