Looking Back on 2025: AES Ohio Investments & Community Impact

December 22, 2025

Thank you for another year of partnership and collaboration with AES Ohio. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you. As we end the year, I’d like to share an overview of a few AES Ohio milestones for 2025.

Our People in the Community
Year after year, I am amazed by how our AES Ohio people show up in the community. The team volunteers their time, gets involved, and serves as key contacts for AES Ohio.

Community Connectors
In 2025, we implemented our Community Connector program. This program connects 29 of our people with 12 of the largest communities we serve. Our Connectors strengthen relationships and foster growth, serving as key liaisons for businesses and municipalities.
For many of our Connectors, the program also serves as a career development tool, offering opportunities to develop skills such as public speaking and networking.

Volunteerism & Board Leadership
In 2025, AES Ohio people invested over 1,470 hours in hands-on volunteerism across our communities. From food distributions to fitting children with new shoes, our people brought energy, compassion, and care to every event.
I am also proud that 10 of our leaders earned charitable, community board appointments this year, further extending our impact. These efforts highlight our ongoing commitment to being an engaged community partner and supporting our neighbors in meaningful, tangible ways.
I invite you to learn more about the work we do in our communities.

AES Ohio Receives Approved Settlement for our Distribution Rate Review
Early November, the Public Utility Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved the settlement in our Distribution Rate Review for investments made from 2020 to 2024. The settlement was a significant step in our continued work to maintain and improve safety, resilience, and reliability.
The approval also adds $1 million to the Gift of Power program, which—along with contributions from customers and employees—helps residential customers who are struggling to pay their electric bills.

AES Ohio Files Three-Year Rate Plan
Also in November, AES Ohio filed our first Three-Year Rate Plan, as required by Ohio’s new energy law. The application proposes annual distribution rates beginning in 2027, 2028, and 2029. This helps provide more transparency about our investments and continued funding for grid modernization and customer support programs.
We developed this plan around four key principles:

  • Simplify: The plan will remove multiple rate riders and replace them with a single distribution charge on customer bills.
  • Improve: Investments supported by this plan will strengthen and modernize our electric grid, reducing the frequency of outages and restoration times after severe storms.
  • Budget: Amounts will be set in advance, allowing customers to plan their annual budget with confidence.
  • Support: Customers needing assistance will continue to have access to assistance programs, including expanded options for those facing financial hardship.

As we look ahead, I am excited to continue our journey to being a great utility with you by our side. Thank you for being an integral part of AES Ohio’s success.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season,
Tom
