Sidney-Franklin 138kV Transmission Line Adjustment Project

AES Ohio with linemen and truck
Sidney-Franklin 138kV transmission line adjustment project

AES Ohio is proposing the Sidney-Franklin 138kV transmission line adjustment project located in Franklin and Turtle Creek Townships within Shelby County, Ohio.

AES Ohio proposes to reroute approximately 0.14 miles of the new 13854 transmission line that is part of the Sidney-Franklin Honda 138kV Rebuild/Extension Project in order to avoid taking an outage on the existing 13827 line that would impact Honda Manufacturing of America and the larger service area.

The OPSB approved the Sidney-Franklin Honda 138kV Rebuild/Extension Project, PUCO Case No.22-1131-EL-BLN on April 5, 2023, and the Franklin Substation and 138kV Extension Project, PUCO Case No. 22-0833-EL-BLN on December 20, 2022. Construction on both projects is scheduled to begin in July 2023.

The original design for the new 13854 138kV circuit included in the Sidney-Franklin Honda 138kV Rebuild/Extension Project incorporated the installation of a new pole located on the north side of Wenger Rd. that was to support both the new 13854 138kV line and the existing 13827 Shelby to Amsterdam 138kV line. AES Ohio has since determined that is not able to take an outage on the 13827 line to construct the new pole without impacting HDMA operations and the larger area served by this line and proposes to complete the construction of the 13854 circuit by installing two temporary guyed structures on the east side of Kuther Rd.

This proposed project allows for the completion of the 13854 circuit to provide a new reliable 138kV source to the new Franklin Substation.
