Sidney-Franklin Honda 138kV Rebuild and Extension Project

    Lineman working on tower
Sidney-Franklin Honda 138kV rebuild and extension project

AES Ohio is proposing the partial rebuild of an existing transmission line and construction of a new 138 kilovolt (“kV”) circuit tapping into the new Franklin Substation, located in Franklin and Turtle Creek Townships within Shelby County, Ohio.

The project will consist of partially rebuilding approximately 5.3-miles of the existing 6628 Sidney-Amsterdam 69kV transmission line and the installation of the new 1.9-mile 13854 Sidney-Franklin 138kV transmission line. To support the new 13854 line, the existing single circuit transmission line pole structures on the existing 6628 line will need to be removed and replaced with double-circuit 69/138kV pole structures. The installation of the new 13854 Sidney-Franklin 138kV transmission line will begin at structure 103 of the existing 6628 Sidney-Amsterdam 69kV line and continue to the new Franklin Substation. The rebuilt line and line extension will run 7.2-miles generally along Wenger Road (SR-50), Kuther Road (SR-49) and Campbell Road.

The line rebuild, with the addition of a 138kV circuit to the existing lines, and the new 138kV transmission line route will allow for the adequate supply of 138kV sources supplying the new Franklin Substation. The project is needed to improve the resilience and reliability of the area power system, increase operational flexibility and to meet the requirements of Honda Development and Manufacturing of America (“HDMA”) facilities.
