As required by Ohio HB15, this interactive hosting capacity map provides hosting capacity information across AES Ohio’s service territory. This map is intended for existing and prospective customers to see the estimated capacity for load and distributed energy resources (DERs) to be connected to the grid. This map does not substitute the need to submit requests to the utility for new load or generation.
Load or generation can be selected on the lower left corner of the map. The legend can be used to quickly identify available hosting capacity. Grids of interest can be selected to view detailed information for that area.
The map gives general guidance on which areas of the distribution system may be suitable for new projects.
Hosting capacity is calculated via a power flow analysis software. Each feeder is analyzed individually to estimate the amount of load or generation that can be safely interconnected without adversely affecting the network. Presently only thermal and voltage constraints are considered in calculating the available hosting capacity for a location.
The map currently excludes one- and two-phase lines. It also excludes networks dedicated to individual customers or those supporting critical infrastructure.
Each quarter the queued load, queued generation, and any circuits that have undergone major topological changes are refreshed. Full system analysis is conducted yearly.
