Call 811 to have utility lines marked

AES Ohio reminds customers to put safety first during National Safe Digging Month

April 4, 2022

AES Ohio, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), recognizes April is National Safe Digging Month and encourages all customers to remember the importance of digging in a safe, responsible way. Whether your project involves construction or planting a tree, put safety first and be sure to call 811 (800-362-2764) or submit a dig notification request through OHIO811 at least 2 days ahead of your scheduled start.

With warmer days ahead, are you planning outdoor improvement projects or yard work?

To ensure safety, you want to be sure you know where electrical, gas and other utility lines are located on your property. Not only will doing so avoid headaches and make your job easier, but you steer clear of potential utility outages, repair costs, and serious injuries. OHIO811 provides support as they work to maintain the vast network of utility infrastructure. AES Ohio reminds customers to exercise social distancing and the utmost caution, cooperation and patience as you plan and perform your work.

By simply calling 811, you can notify Ohio’s one-call notification systems. The Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) coordinates with local utilities to have underground lines marked, so you know ahead of time where it is safe to dig. Customers can also enter dig requests online with the OHIO811 e-dig ticket system. Submitting a ticket is easy, enter the location and a valid email address.

OUPS will mark the location of underground utility lines for you. If you do not complete your digging or construction project within 10 business days after the initial marking, you will need to call back to have the utility lines remarked for verification.
