Notice of upcoming public informational open house
AES Ohio is holding a public informational open house for the project on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Washington Middle School, 500 South Elm Street, Washington Court House, OH 43160.
The open house will provide an opportunity to discuss the project with the team. There will be no formal presentation.
Please see below for updated FAQs on the project.
The Atlanta-Fayette 345kV transmission line project is part of the necessary upgrades to support the increased capacity requirements driven by load growth from large customer projects in the area. The project involves building approximately 25 miles of new double circuit 345kV transmission line.
In addition, AES Ohio will need to expand the Fayette substation and the Atlanta substation. The substation expansions are associated projects and will have separate project websites and applications to the Ohio Power Siting Board.
Why is this project needed?
AES Ohio is investing in network enhancements driven by large customer projects in the area. The latest load requests necessitate significant additional transmission support by 2031. These network enhancements will both serve that new load and provide increased capacity, flexibility, and resiliency to the entire southeast region of the AES Ohio service territory.
AES Ohio is proposing the construction of a new double circuit 345kV line connecting the Fayette substation in Jeffersonville, Ohio, to the AES Ohio Atlanta substation in Atlanta, Ohio. This new double circuit Atlanta-Fayette 345kV transmission line will introduce an additional energy source into the Jeffersonville area. Additionally, these facilities will facilitate operational flexibility for preventative maintenance on other transmission lines and transmission substation equipment in the region.
